Austronautja e NASA’s, Peggy Whitson eshte vendosur qe te zgjase misionin e saj me tre muaj te tjere ne Stacionin Nderkombetar te Hapesires.
NASA dhe agjencia hapesinore Ruse Roscosmos, nenshkruan nje marreveshje per te zgjeruar qendrimin Peggy Whitson ne ISS deri ne Ekspediten e 52. Ne vend qe te kthehej ne Toke me ekupiazhin e Ekseditites se 51 — kozmonautin Oleg Novitsky e Roscosmos dhe austronautin Thomas Pesquet te ESA’s, ne qershor sic ishte planifikuar fillimisht. Whitson do te qendrojw ne stacionin e hapesires dhe do te kthehet ne toke me austronautin Jack Fischer te NASA’s dhe kozmonautin e Roscosmos “Fjodor Yurchikhin te Ekspedites se 52. Kjo ulje eshte vendosur te ndodhe ne shtator te po ketij viti.
“Ky eshte nje lajm i madh,” tha Whitson. “Me pelqen te jem ketu. Jetojne dhe punojne ne bordin e stacionit te hapesires, dhe eshte vendi ku une ndjehen se jap nje kontribut te madh, keshtu qe une jam vazhdimisht duke u perpjekur qe te shtrydh cdo pike jashte kohes time ketu. Duke pasur tre muaj me shume eshte ajo qe deshiroja me shume. ”
Ne vitin 2008, Whitson u be gruaja e pare per te komanduar stacionin e hapesires, dhe me 9 prill do te behet gruaja e pare per ta komanduar ate per te dyten here. Pervec kesaj, ajo mban rekordin per me shume ecje hapesinore realizuar nga nje femer ne hapesire.Ajo gjithashtu do thyej rekordin e Jeff Williams per qendrimin me gjate ne stacionin hapesinore nga nje austronaut ne ISS.
